Everyone's Rebbe
On 12 Tammuz this past summer, I was checking out in a store in Boro Park, when the sales lady asked me, "did you come in for gimmel Tammuz?"
I told her that I came for a few things - (my brother in law just got married BH,) but of course for that too.
But I sensed she was trying to show me that she too knows the Rebbe and chabad..
So I asked her, "do you go to the ohel?"
"Of course!" She said.
"today and tomorrow are actually really good days to go to the ohel, 12/13 Tammuz.." I mentioned.
"it's always a good time to go," she answered. "I usually go on Thursdays cuz it's my day off."
I thought she must have more to say, so I asked, "Did you have any special encounters?"
Her: "No."
Me: "well the truth is that it's always a special encounter.."
She lowered her voice. "Ok, I'll tell you."
"When my oldest son was ready to get married, he met a girl, and we are chassidish, so after 3 meetings he was ready to get engaged. But the shadchan said the girl still needed time to think.
"We waited for two long weeks without any answer. I called the shadchan again but she said the girl is "still thinking..."
"I told my son, "Look, it's just a very nice way of her saying no - that she doesn't think its for her.. I have lots of other great names, you can meet someone else."
"But my son said he didn't want to meet anyone else. He felt that she is the right one for him and wanted to wait.
The next day he claimed he was over it, but when I asked if he would meet another girl, he said no.
"I didn't know what to do. I didn't want my son to have heartbreak. He's such a good boy, why should he have to go through this?
"I went to the ohel, and while usually I just say some Tehillim and stay for a short time, this time I started crying and really poured my heart out to Hashem. I just wanted whatever is best for my son.
"I left the ohel, and on the way home I suddenly got a phone call from the shadchan that the girl wants to have the lechayim tonight!
"I told her that I need to ask my son, and that if yes, I would want them to meet again first.
A week later they were engaged and they are BH such a happy cute couple.
"Do you think that's a special encounter?" She asked..
Then she told me how she received lekach on the last hashana raba, and that she was one of the last to have yechidus (a private audience) with the Rebbe for 7 minutes!
I was thinking, wow! Our Rebbe is really everyone's Rebbe! I'm sure everyone has a secret connection, even if they don't admit it right away.
